There has been a small hiatus for the Laureate but now Peterborough Poets Utd have taken over the management of this very important cultural role, Having this title can change your poetry career, it widens scope of poetry in the city and the laureate is an ambassador for the arts at many events. Therefore Poets Utd wanted to enable others to have this role and to continue the work that over 14 other laureates have already achieved. Plus you get an amazing trophy!

So, we are now looking for Peterborough’s Poet Laureate of 2016. If you think that you could be the next poet to take the laureateship on then please enter!

About the competition
The competition, held annually since 1998, is to find a local poet to hold the honorary title for one year. Throughout the year the Poet Laureate will work with a number of Peterborough groups and organisations, including Peterborough Poets Utd, The John Clare Trust and the Community to identify opportunities to make creative writing and particularly poetry part of the life of the city, chronicling special events and celebrating the City of Peterborough. Although the role is unpaid there will be reasonable expenses available, and the title ‘Peterborough Poet Laureate’ is recognition of your talent and gives a unique role in the community.

Theme 
Journeys- This could be a personal journey, a journey of a third person or about anything that the idea of Journeys conjures.

Closing date is 2nd of November 2015

You must be available to attend the special Laureate evening on Wednesday 25th November at Metal, Chauffeurs Cottage which is behind the Town Hall, where short-listed entrants will be asked to read / perform their poems. A panel of judges headed up by the former poet laureate and they will then decide on a winner. Prizes will be awarded to the successful Laureate and two runners-up.
