Lunchtime Concert: Shiona Cormack and Kate Wishart
For this Tuesdays Till Two concert we welcome back two performers from last summer: coloratura soprano Shiona Cormack and pianist Kate Wishart. In a programme titled “Let the Bright Seraphim” they’ll be performing for us arias from oratorios, including music by Handel, Mozart, and Michael Tippett.
As usual the café will be open from noon, serving a range of hot drinks and homemade quiche, cakes,scones etc. All profits from the café will go to The Green Backyard.
The concert will begin promptly at 1pm. Admission is free, but those who are able to afford it are asked to make a donation. The suggested amount is £5.
About the performers:
Kate Wishart went to the Guildhall School of Music and studied piano and percussion there before joining the Academy of the BBC orchestra as timpanist. After 10 years playing professionally she went to medical school and became a GP, whilst continuing to play music as an amateur. Since retiring, she has once again increased her musical activities and is developing a role as an accompanist.
Coloratura Soprano Shiona Cormack studied singing at the RSAMD and completed her postgraduate diploma in Vocal and Opera Studies at the RWCM. Shiona was one of the young artists on the English National Opera’s Opera Works training programme 2011-12.
Operatic experience includes: Zerbinetta/Ariadne auf Naxos, Norina/Don Pasquale, Fiordiligi/Cosi Fan Tutte, Susanna/The Marriage of Figaro , Queen of the Night/The Magic Flute . With ENO Opera Works: Mme Herz*/Der Schauspieldirektor, Sophie*/Der Rosenkavalier, Countess*/Le Comte Ory, and Controller*/Flight. Other roles include Rosalinda/Die Fledermaus, Juliette*/Romeo et Juliette and Tytania*/ A Midsummer Night’s Dream. La Feé/ Cendrillon and Gretel*/ Hansel und Gretel (RWCMD) *scenes
Oratorio includes: Mozart Exultate Jubilate , Rossini Stabat Mater, Carl Orff Carmina Burana, Handel Messiah, Vivaldi Gloria.
