Combining Peterborough Cathedral’s stunning Norman architecture, a sixties skiffle band and Shakespeare’s poetic language, the talented Gearbox Theatre Company brings to you a lively, entertaining and colourful production of one of Shakespeare’s best loved comedies, Twelfth Night.
It is the swinging sixties in Illyria where music really is ‘the Food of Love’. Cesario loves Orsino, Orsino loves Olivia, Olivia loves Cesario … but Cesario is really Viola, Sebastian’s twin sister … and is Sebastian really drowned? And then there is Malvolio … cruelly deceived into yellow stockings and crossed-garters by the riotous ‘rogues’ of this enchanting tale. There is love and marriage, laughter, mischief and cross-dressing. A sixties skiffle band harmonises with a cathedral organ to create the original and somewhat nostalgic soundtrack (music by Steve Hession). This is a show not to be missed.
