We are hosting a pop-up theatre here in Serpentine Green Shopping Centre during May. Eastern Angles will be performing River Lane throughout May.

River Lane is the story of three friends. Tom, Joe and Kaye, the girl they both loved. It’s also about the roads, river and lanes that formed the playground of their youth.

The play opens with the ancient laying out of modern Peterborough. Under the guidance of Martin De Bec the marshland recedes and the city appear. Meanwhile Tom is returning to Peterborough after forty years, bewildered by the new parkways and the scale of change.

The friends take us back to 1960s night clubs, Desmond Dekker and the soul music that was the soundtrack to their lives – a time when they vowed to escape the narrow confines of Peterborough and change the world.

But this play is not only about the past. While revisiting the landmarks of his younger life Tom finds himself helping a young Polish mother, inspiring teachers at a local primary school and instigating an unlikely event encompassing the founding fathers of the city, the marshmen on their stilts and Martin De Bec’s monks!

Headed by a community cast, River Lane will be a real celebration of the city and an event to remember!
