On a chilly Saturday in March hundreds of unique pieces of art were left across Peterborough city centre for local people and visitors to Find and Keep. From poetry beer-mats to magical pop-up books, from sonnet medicine to street art pizza-boxes, these gifts from the artists of Peterborough delighted their new owners. Mel Evans and Chris Porsz documented the project for a photography exhibition that celebrates the city’s creative talent and generosity.

“Find Me Keep Me was our take on the Free Art Friday movement” explains Stu Payn, one of the founders of Creative Peterborough “but we added in the collaboration of over fifty artists, a treasure hunt, a tombola and an doctors’ surgery.  I’m not sure who had the most fun – the artists or the “finders”, and the photographs really capture this.”

Having found photography through art school, local freelance photographer Mel Evans has worked within the media and commercial world.  She now specialises in lifestyle portraiture and documentary photography.  Chris Porsz has been using photography to capture life on the street of Peterborough since the seventies.

Creative Peterborough is an independent arts organisation which champions the needs and aspirations of local artists across all art practices.  It is lead by Sue Shields and Anita Bruce (View5), Stu Payn (Blok Collective), Kate Hall (Jumped Up Theatre), Ann Bellamy (Jailbirds) and Keely Mills (Handmade in Peterborough).
