Feast your eyes on Rain, Snow 2013, a new exhibition comprising works by local artist Ruth Robotham. The pieces will be displayed in Squire’s Coffee House at Peterborough Museum until 2 February 2014.

Robotham’s impressionistic works explore the changeable nature of the Fenland landscape, evoking the stormy bluster of winter days in the Fens. Her works are available for sale, and would make meaningful and seasonally-appropriate gifts this Christmas.

Born in the Potteries, Stoke on Trent, Robotham won a scholarship to the Chelsea School of Art, studying under painter and print-maker Ceri Richards. She then obtained a Rome scholarship to study for a year in Italy, working at the British School in Rome.

The artist has been inspired by the turbulent Norfolk coast. The vast expanse of yellow beaches and stormy skies give space a special quality. The influence of J. M. W. Turner is very much evident, and Robotham’s unique explosive style breathes life and energy into the landscapes, bringing the tempestuous exterior into the cosy interior of Squire’s.

Squire’s Coffee House is open at normal Museum opening times. For more information, call Peterborough Museum on 01733 864663 or email [email protected].
