PVoC: Early English Song

At turns sultry, fiery, langourous, and exultant, these early examples of the song form provide an impassioned start to the PVoC season. The intimacy of the songs is intensified by a harpsichord accompaniment, evocative of the period of history in which the music was desgned.

Jonathan Hanley (tenor) and Ben Horden (harpsichord) will perform items by Dowland, Purcell, Blow and Morley, and will appear later in the season performing vocal quartets and duets with other seasoned professional performers.

Refreshments will be available at the interval.

£8/4 (advance)
£25/10 (season pass, for all 5 concerts in the series)

Other music from the same time period can be heard in two other concerts in the PVoC series (Consort and Choral), and more recent examples of English art song feature in the Art Song and Opera evening.
