Pier Paolo Pasolini believes that reality is cinema in nature and that cinema is a reproduction of reality.

“Teorema” is Italian mystery film written and directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. On release, Teorema was not only widely criticised as controversial, but condemned by the Catholic Church on charges of obscenity, due to its sexual content.

A middle class household is irrevocably changed after a handsome and mysterious young man visits. The Visitor seduces each family member in turn, including their maid. On his sudden departure, the family are left bereft. For better or worse, each member of the family is forever transformed…

“Teorema” has little dialogue, instead favouring images which bring the world into an image-consciousness. If necessary, the story could be understood while watching the movie with no sound at all, but without the music especially it would lose an entire dimension of its poetic affect.

The story makes you feel that we all have the opportunity to do more but are stuck – only a spiritual experience perhaps can make us profoundly change.
