De-Stress Fest 2016

Spring clean the mind and refresh the body – a home-grown Peterborough festival of uplifting arts & health activities.

30th April – 7th May

Featuring:

  • Our very own Destress Café
  • Confessions Box to share heavy secrets
  • Infectious and entertaining Laughter Yoga classes
  • Sufi Zen – a soul-infusing dance experience
  • Kite making, mandala colouring & storytelling for the whole family
  • Silent Disco – the ultimate Saturday night stress-relief

30th April - Bridge Street - All day - Free

De-Stress Day

Saturday shopping will be less hectic on De-Stress Day. Pop into our De-Stress Café to enjoy tea, cake, a story, and some light arts & craft.

Plus, share your secrets – good or bad – in our confessions box outside the Town Hall.

 

1st May – Central Park – 2pm – Free

Sufi Zen

An intimate dance experience that unites the stillness of Zen meditation with the whirling motion of Sufi Dervishes.

Stick around after the show for some performance and activities, plus a free Bollywood Dance workshop at 3.30pm. All ages and abilities welcome.

 

2nd May – 10am – 12 noon: Paston Farm2pm – 4pm: Gladstone Park Community Centre – Free and Drop In

Family Arts Workshops

Drop in with the family and make your own Indian fighting kite, create a mandala and enjoy a storytelling session.

Afterschool Arts Workshops

A family friendly workshop for students and parents. Make your own Indian fighting kite, create a mandala and enjoy some storytelling.

 

5th May - Key Theatre - 7-8pm – £5 – Tickets available on Eventbrite

Laughter Yoga

Forced laughter through guided exercises soon turns into real and contagious chuckling. A fun and alternative way to reduce stress!

‘Inside Out’ Film Screening

Forget the weekend chores and instead enjoy a relaxing morning at the cinema. We’ll be showing Disney Pixar’s Inside Out, where a young girl’s emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.

Silent Disco

The Silent Disco phenomenon is coming to Radius for a Saturday night party. Headphone up, pick your channel, and rave on. We’ll be playing the best tunes [of the 90s and 00s].

Artist Walks

Join artist Marc Atkinson as he leads you through the city’s outer edges on an insightful photography walk.

Holi May Day Celebration

Share some tasty home-made food, take part in our kite flying games, and enjoy playing wih Holi colours to celebrate your week of de-stressing.

As well as our programmed activities, the Green Backyard have also programmed some soothing and inspiring workshops in partnership with De-Stress Fest! Here’s their full programme of workshops:

 

Willow Weaving for beginners - 1st May – 11am-2pm

Learn the basics of willow from co-founder of GBY & willow sculptor, Renny Antonelli.

 

Introduction to the Art of Mosaic – 4th May – 11:30am-2:30pm

Working with Muni of Muni’s Mosaics, learn to be creative with mosaics by starting with a small, fun project of coaster-making.

 

The Poet’s Calendar (Spring) – be part of a poetry trail at The Green Backyard - 4th May – 1pm – 4pm

Discover the GBY’s habitat as it changes with the seasons. Led by former Peterborough Poet Laureate, Keely Mills, you will explore exciting writing exercises to bring out your poetic voice.

 

Vegan Cookery for the sweet toothed - 7th May - 11:30am-2:30pm

Led by Rose Croft, founder of Peterborough Vegan & Vegetarian society, make sweet dairy-free and gluten-free treats. Learn new recipes and then eat your goodies!

 

All workshops are free, take place at the Green Backyard, and are open to anyone aged 16 and over. To book a place, email [email protected]
